The Square lấy bối cảnh khi chế độ quân chủ lập hiến tại Thụy Điển không còn nữa, và Cung điện Stockholm biến thành một bảo tàng nghệ thuật đương đại. Christian (Claes Bang), quản lý bảo tàng chuẩn bị cho buổi triển lãm sắp đặt có tên The Square, ý tưởng lôi kéo người xem quan tâm tới lòng vị tha và tinh thần trách nhiệm với thông điệp: "mọi người đều có quyền và trách nhiệm ngang nhau".
